AMTEX showcasing prowess of machine tools industry

The event showcased the latest innovations and dedicated solutions that are expected to address the growing needs of the global machine tools industry.

Asian Machine Tool Exhibition (AMTEX) 2018, the recently held machine tools and engineering exhibition in New Delhi, witnessed display of machinery and products from over 450 companies of which 150 are international ones. The event, the theme for which was “Man, Machine & the Future”, showcased the latest innovations and dedicated solutions that are expected to address the growing needs of the global machine tools industry. The four day event, organised by Reed Triune Exhibitions, focused on automotive, power, electrical equipment, textile machinery and consumer goods industries. The major highlights of this edition were the presence of concurrent shows dedicated to quality, metrology, tooling, automation and robotics.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by K Murali (Director, MSME – Technology Development Center), R Panneer Selvam (Principal Director, MSME – Technology Development Center), Satish Ranade (VP, Electronica India), Rakesh Agarwal (MD, Laser Technologies Pvt Ltd), Cyril Pereira (MD, Reed Triune Exhibitions Pvt Ltd), and Gregory Zaraisky (CEO, Reed Exhibitions India).

“AMTEX is a great platform to bring together industrialists and knowledge leaders from the machine tools and engineering sector. With India focusing on innovation and Indian products through initiatives like Make in India coupled with growth in manufacturing that are eventually boosting newer and unique Indian ventures. The reduction in corporate tax to 25 per cent for turnover up to Rs 250 crores would also benefit some of the major machine tool manufacturers in the country and contribute towards its growth,” commented R Panneer Selvam.

Cyril Pereira added, “We have seen a huge shift in terms of visitors registering online before the show. This time more than 6,000 visitors registered online. What we have done is we have taken such registrations and matched them with exhibitors to prefix meetings. This has really helped as the exhibitor is well-informed about the profile of buyers who would be coming over. This helps in making the discussions focused and decision making faster.”

As per Indian Machine Tools Manufacturing Association (IMTMA), the market size of machine tools sector was sized at $ 1.7 billion in 2017. It has been estimated that the machine tool industry in India has the potential to reach $ 3-4 billion by 2020-2022. The global conclave encourages Indian manufacturers and discuss in depth the benefits of adopting new age machine tools with advanced technology that can accelerate the growth of manufacturing sector in India.

Speaking to IPF’s Manish Pant, Neeraj Vohra, Regional Head, Sales, Mitutoyo South Asia Pvt Ltd, said, “This year our focus is on providing automation solutions to the industry. We are helping connect factories through data automation and storage, and solutions based on our Real-Time SPC Software. Our industry caters to metrology and the demand from the segment is rising because we are striving for more and more quality solutions. All our solutions provide a precision measurement. The emerging industries in India are aviation and energy that can drive the demand for our products going forward. However, as all industries are now striving for Industry 4.0, we are aiming all our solutions towards that.”

India is poised to grow from currently being 12th in production and 8th in consumption and for this the machine tools industry needs to develop capabilities to cater to this demand and investments for long term benefits in the economy. According to Pereira, AMTEX is the perfect platform for the manufacturing fraternity at large, who can be sure to find the right solution to their business needs.

It has been estimated that the machine tool industry in India has the potential to reach $ 3-4 billion by 2020-2022.
