In order to drive the slow sales figures, commercial vehicles major AMW will be launching a new range of premium trucks by the end of this year targeting segments like construction and mining. The new trucks will come with higher horse power and better drivelines with lot of features in the cabin.
The company’s Managing Director and CEO, Anirudh Bhuwalka, said, “The premium range will have four truck models. These are going to be heavy-duty tractors (trailers) catering to construction and mining segment. The new model will also complement the company’s existing range and will be manufactured in our Bhuj facility.”
The commercial vehicle manufacturer is also planning to launch its first luxury bus in early 2013, which is likely to drive competition in the segment, mainly dominated by overseas players. Bhuwalka said that the luxury bus is likely to hit the road in the January-March quarter next year. Currently the market for luxury buses in India is around 1,000 units a year and is still in a nascent stage by growing almost by ten to 15 per cent annually. We will be pricing the bus competitively and will be lesser than Volvo and other foreign players.
Asked about the company’s plans on the sales and service centres, Bhuwalka said the company currently has 120 dealerships and plans to open another 10 to 12 dealerships in the current year.
