Automated cars are not for country like India

Sundar Pichai is a man on a mission. The Chennai-born, California-headquartered CEO of Google is leading the tech giant’s charge in areas ranging from artificial intelligence to virtual reality from home automation to driverless cars. He has high hopes for India. However, when talking about the vision for driverless cars in India, he said, “I don’t think for a country like India you are gonna see completely automated cars.”

He even mentioned that for the company cars are a very under-utilised resource. “Cars are very underutilised, so anything that you can do so that they are not sitting idle all the time and you make it a shared resource, will benefit a country like India greatly. So I think that’s a bigger trend underway.”

He added, “Just like technology assisting humans, we make cars over time so that they are safer, the driving experience is comfortable, and people’s quality of life improves and overall society improves because the cars are shared better. I think we will play a role in that.”
