Bajaj planning to relaunch Chetak in India

Bajaj Chetak, one of the best-selling and popular scooters from the Bajaj’s product lineup since 1972, is set to make a comeback in the country. The company stopped the production of the Chetak in 2006 and was powered by a 145cc two-stroke engine producing 7.5 hp of maximum power and 10.7 Nm of torque. Bajaj in 2002, updated the scooter, which was then available with a four-stroke engine.

After seeing the rising demand of scooters in the country in the recent past, Bajaj is reportedly planning to relaunch the Chetak in order to grab a pie of this growing segment. Speculated to be launched sometime in 2017, the Chetak is expected to an all-new design and modern features to lure the customers and give competition to the already powerful Honda Activa 125 and TVS Jupiter in the market.

The company has not disclosed any details about the upcoming scooter. Bajaj Chetak may get front disc brakes, a conventional suspension setup to enhance the riding experience and a host of utility spaces like large under seat storage, front storage space and hooks under the seat.
