After receiving an overwhelming response for its heavy duty range of trucks in India under its ‘Bharat Benz’ brand, German commercial vehicle major Daimler AG rolled out its light duty trucks in Chennai. The three light duty BharatBenz trucks in nine tonne and 12 tonne category – 914 & 1214 for the haulage segment and 1217 for the construction segment – all based on the FUSO platform were launched. The 914 range is priced between Rs 10.15 lakh and 10.66 lakh, 1214 is from Rs 10.11 lakh to Rs 11.62 lakh and 1217 is from Rs 11.75 lakh to Rs 13.58 lakh.
Since the launch of BharatBenz a new dedicated brand for trucks in India, DICV has gone through an intense process of selection of the right platforms and developed a whole new supplier network to supply high quality and reliable parts.
Speaking on the occasion, Marc Listosella, Managing Director and CEO, DICV, said, “On September 2012, we delivered our first promise through our Heavy-duty trucks. We are extremely encouraged by the highly positive feedback and through repeat orders. Today, another important milestone for DICV & BharatBenz. Our light-duty trucks will add a new dimension to reliable trucking by being very fuel efficient along with superior driving dynamics.”
Daimler India, has made investments of Rs 4,400 crore at its 400 acre manufacturing facility at Oragadam near here, with an initial capacity of producing 36,000 units per annum. Since more than 90 per cent of all trucks sold in India are financed, DICV has set up Daimler Financial Services which would capture the financial services under the brand BharatBenz Financial.
