Changan eyes TN for unit

Changan Automobile Company, a Chinese manufacturer, is exploring opportunities to set up a production facility in South India.

A senior government official said the company has held preliminary discussions in Tamil Nadu with industry promotion agencies such as State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu for allocation of land and the Guidance Bureau, which handles investment facilitation.

The company has also looked at various locations, including Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
According to sources, Tamil Nadu is a strong contender with an established automobile industry base, including six car manufacturers and international truck and bus manufacturers near Chennai, which has emerged among the top 10 auto hubs globally. The manufacturers include Ford, Hyundai, Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi and BMW and truck and bus manufacturers such as Ashok Leyland and Daimler have set up shop in the vicinity of Chennai.
