Italy based premium motorcycle manufacturer Ducati has launched its 1299 Superleggera in India at Rs 1.12 crore. The track focused 1299 Superleggera made its debut at the 2016 EICMA show held at Milan at November 2016 and the bike came to India within 2 months of its global debut. Ducati claims that the 1299 Superleggera is the world’s lightest mass-produced motorcycle with twin-cylinder engine. The bike is equipped with swingarm and monocoque frame which is integrated to an airbox all made of carbon fiber. Extensive use of carbon fibre and a monocoque frame and titanium has helped the company to reduce the weight of the bike by up to 40 per cent. The bike’s kerb weight is now about 167 kg, said the motorcycle manufacturer.Ducati 1299 Superleggera is powered by a 1285cc twin-cylinder engine borrowed from its Panigale series which churns out 212 hp of power and 220 Nm of torque. Other features include Ducati traction control (DTC), Slide control, Power launch and engine brake control. Ducati had confirmed that it will manufacture only 500 units of this high-end motorcycle globally and all the models had been sold out back then.
The exclusivity of the 1299 Superleggera is underlined by the new electronic package that uses an inertial platform system with six axes (6D IMU – Inertial Measurement Unit) to manage the electronic controls that on this bike rise to a level of primacy. This system has made it possible to further develop the Ducati Traction Control EVO (DTC EVO) presented on the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario thanks to the introduction of the Ducati Slide Control (DSC) which ensures even better performance when exiting corners. The 1299 Superleggera is also the first Ducati Superbike to be equipped with Ducati Power Launch (DPL), as well as the Engine Brake Control (EBC) already present on previous versions, reaching the incredible dry weight of 156 kg.
