Electric vehicle India, a Mumbai-based start-up, has announced that it has developed an electric and hybrid conversion kit for mass application in vehicles. Set up The company Mr Priyank Dahanukar, the company aims to provide motorists a suitable and reliable solution to bring down their operating costs and reduce vehiclar emissions. The kit was designed and developed by a team of four, and can be retro-fitted to a car, converting it into a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric vehicle. The company claims that the kit does not affect the engine of the car, and includes a motor, controller for the motor, chargers, battery management system and batteries, whichj come in different sizes depending on the engine capacity of the car, which could range between 850cc and 2500cc. What makes the kit special according to Mr Dahanukar is its low cost of development. The kit was developed with an investment of Rs 32 lakh approximately in the last 3 years. Taking 8 to 10 hours to achieve maximum charge of eight units of electricity, the EVI kit does not require the removal of the internal combustion engine from the car. Energy source switchover can be achieved by a flick of a switch. The EVI kit comes at a time when the National Electric and Hybrid mobility mission was passed by the government. Currently the company is working with a variety of development partners including OEMs, Tier 1s, vehicle integrators and test centres.
