Indian automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has successfully maintained its leadership position in the light commercial vehicle (LCV), up to 3.5 tonnes, segment in the country for three years in a row. With 50.8 per cent market share, the company sold 1,05,303 units during April-November period this year at a growth rate of 4.08 per cent year on year, compared to 1,01,178 units during the same period last year. The automobile manufacturer has been able to hold its leadership position for the last three years. In the year 2014-15, the company sold 96,995 units leaving behind the close competition Tata Motors which sold 90,116 units.
Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), M&M Ltd, said, “In this segment, Mahindra has been enjoying the leadership position for last three years. We have overall 51 per cent market share in 3.5 tonnes category which we achieved with the proper planning, with the help of new products and our ongoing products.” How Mahindra maintains its leadership in small commercial vehicle segment. However, during April-November 2015, while Mahindra grew at a decent 4.31 per cent by selling 1,01,178 units, the sales of Tata Motors declined by 25.21 per cent. Also, 2015-16 has not been a year of growth per say for the overall small commercial vehicle category. The overall goods carrier category under 3.5 tonnes sold 1,89,840 units which is the lowest in the last three years.
