Mahindra has expanded its footprint in United States by commissioning an electric two-wheeler facility at Ann Arbor. The company has also started a Technical Center at Southeast Michigan. The electgric two-wheeler facility and the technical centre add to Mahindra’s US footprint, which consists of IT companies Tech Mahindra and Bristlecone, and the tractor business, Mahindra USA. With a capacity to manufacture 9,000 vehicles per year, the Ann Arbor plant will roll out GenZe as an urban transportation vehicle. Claimed to be the only two-wheeler of its kind in the USA, the GenZe is a compact design, which would travel an impressive range of 30 miles. Aimed at students and urban commuters, the GenZe has a top speed of 30 mph, and is operable without a motorcycle license in most states. The tech centre at Troy, would focus on globally competitive product designs and technologies for Mahindra. Employing 40 engineers with complete vehicle engineering design capabilities, the expertise and capabilities of the technical centre are instrumental in developing industry leading automotive platforms for Mahindra’s global markets. The new facility in Troy, Michigan provides both engineering expertise as well as vehicle prototyping capabilities in support of Mahindra’s aggressive strategy to become a top global automotive brand within the next 10 years. Said Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, “The North American Technical Center and GenZe represent important disruptive product incubators for the Mahindra Group.”
