Mahindra witnesses 16 % increase in auto sales

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd have sold a total of 53,663 vehicles during September 2017, compared to 46,130 vehicles during September 2016. This includes both their domestic and export sales numbers which amounts to a 16 per cent increase since last year.

The passenger vehicle segment accounted for 23 per cent of sales with 25,327 vehicles being sold this September (YTD 121,399 units) as opposed to 20,537 vehicles in September 2016 (LYTD 115,499 units).

In the medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MHCV) category, the company sold 884 vehicles in September 2016 (YTD 3,495 vehicles) as against 364 vehicles in September 2016, recording an increase of 143 per cent since last year.

Sales of LCV weighing below 3.5 tonnes have seen a 16 per cent increase from last year and LCVs above 3.5 tonnes have seen an 18 per cent increase.

The company’s domestic sales stood at 50,456 vehicles during September 2017, whereas during September 2016 they sold 42,545 vehicles, which marks a growth of 19 per cent.

“The auto industry has witnessed a buoyant demand in September leading up to the festive season. This upsurge has been witnessed both in urban and rural markets. At Mahindra, we are very happy with our September 2017 performance with our passenger & commercial vehicle sales having grown at 23 per cent and 19 per cent respectively,” said Rajan Wadhera, President, Automotive Sector, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.

The company has also seen remarkable success with the Mahindra Scorpio, which has seen highest monthly sales in September 2017, according to Wadhera.
