Maruti Suzuki had best retail in December

Country’s largest carmaker by volume Maruti Suzuki India has posted highest ever retail sales in the month of December at 1.82 lakh units, sources close to the company said. Confirming the development R S Kalsi, Executive Director, (Sales & Marketing), Maruti Suzuki India said “We definitely had the best retail sales last month backed by our efforts to counter the impact of demonetisation and various schemes for corporates, rural areas etc.”

This is contrary to the company’s wholesales in the domestic market which went down by 4.4 per cent for the month of December 2016 and stood at 1,06,414 units as against 1,11,333 units during December 2015. This is for the first time since April 2014 that Maruti Suzuki has registered negative growth in monthly domestic sales. However, during June 2016, owing to a major fire in the automaker’s one of the significant components supplier – Subros, Maruti Suzuki reported de-growth of 10.2 per cent. Most of the carmaker reported one of their worst sales in the last two months due to fall in demand after demonetisation.
