The YL7 car Maruti Suzuki plans to premiere at the 2014 Auto Expo will be equipped with an automated transmission. The automated manual transmission (AMT) allows for changing of gears without engaging the clutch, combining the efficiency of a manual transmission with the convenience of an automatic transmission. Priced lower than automoatic transmission, the AMT will be a first of its kind in the small car segment since the YL7 is claimed to be a replacament to the A-Star. The AMT on YL7 will use a hydraulically operated clutch that engages simultaneously when the gear lever is moved. Not as complicated as the AMTs found on costlier, more powerful cars, the one on the YL7 was developed by Maruti Suzuki in association with Magneti Marelli.
