The Japanese semiconductor component manufacturer, ROHM Semiconductor, hopes to tap the emerging opportunity in smart phone markets in India and widening its presence in the automotive sector. Headquartered in Bengaluru, ROHM Semiconductor India has a wholesale office and a design centre in Bengaluru and last year launched an application engineering centre. It launched a driver IC for brushless, DC motors used in domestic appliances such as ceiling fans and air coolers.
Globally, its business is about $3 billion a year and India is a focus market, according to the company. It supplies components to tier I and II auto components suppliers with the automotive sector contributing a large chunk of its business here.
