Indian tier 1 supplier, Sona, will be enhancing the production capacity of its electronic power steering (EPS) line at Daruhera near Delhi. The company currently manufactures 3000 EPS units at Daruhera. The capacity engancement will hike the capacity to 8000 units. The EPS line, manufacturing Electric Power Asust Module (EPAM), currently caters to the need of John Deere, USA. The capex, with an investment of Rs 50 crore, will enable Sona to cater to the needs of the domestic farm, and off-highway segments. The EPAM was developed by Sona in-house. The company is said to be discussions with domestic manufacturers towards the supply of EPAM. The company has also applied for patents for the EPA, which makes it easier to steer tractors and off-highway equipment.
