India’s most favourite carmaker has achieved yet another feat. Maruti Suzuki is now not just the leader in the car market — it leads the utility vehicles and vans segments as well. One company leading all the key segments of an automobile market is a rarity, with the only exception among similar-sized markets being Hyundai Motor in South Korea.
In May, Maruti Suzuki has overtaken Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) to become India’s largest utility vehicle (UV) maker. The manufacturer of Brezza and SCross vehicles has overcome the sustained dominance from the maker of Scorpio and Bolero for the second successive month, underscoring the shifting trends on the utility vehicle leader board.
The most anticipated SUV, Jeep Compass has finally rolled out from Fiat India's Ranjangaon assembly plant. One of the posts on social media from the company's executive says that the Jeep Compass will have over 65 per cent locally sourced components on the SUV.
Car market leader Maruti has begun the fiscal 2017-18 with some impressive performance in April. While the company secured number one position in the UV segment, after displacing incumbent Mahindra & Mahindra, it has regained leadership position in the mid-size sedan segment after some temporary setback.
The pricing of Tata Motors' all-new, and eagerly awaited, SUV - Hexa - was put on the company's official website momentarily before being pulled off. According to it, prices will start at Rs 12.30 lakh and the top-end of the car will cost Rs 19.43 lakh (all prices ex showroom, Coimbatore).
