Tom Flack to steer Tata Motors growth

Sixteen months after Tata Motors hired Guenter Butschek as its MD, the company has roped in yet another global automotive veteran, Tom Flack, former global purchasing director at Ford Motor Company, to bolster the management’s procuring strength. Flack, who was global purchasing director for raw material and stamping at Ford Motor Company, comes aboard Tata Motors as the chief procurement officer and will be reporting directly into Butschek. He is the third major expatriate in the executive committee of Tata Motors, after Butschek, MD of Tata Motors, and Timothy Leverton, who is president and head of advanced and product engineering. He will become in an integral part of the new structure that the company has put in place, as it is close to introducing new Advance Modular Platform, or AMP, where the company is likely to use a much smaller vendor base than the 1,200 it did in in the past across both passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle divisions.
