Volkswagen has launched the hot hatch version of its small car Polo in India, Called the PoloGT TSI, the car, priced at Rs 7.99 lakhs ex showroom, Delhi, is powered by a100bhp, 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder direct injection turbo-diesel engine. The engine breathes through 4-valves, and is sourced from Germany. Mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox, the engine breathes through 4-valves, and generates a peak torque of 175Nm @ 1500-4100rpm. Having already sold a few units of this car according to sources close to the company, the PoloGT TSI is said to be a reflection of Volkswagen’s technological prowess in engine technology. Said Arvind Saxena, Managing Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India, at the launch in Mumbai, “In the current market scenario, fuel efficiency has become vital for every customer looking at purchasing a new car. Under these circumstances we strongly feel the need to provide our customer with a choice to opt for an efficient petrol car. The Polo GT TSI is the perfect answer with Maximum Power and Minimum Consumption.” Leave for the mechanicals, which other than the TSI engine and the DSG gearbox, include speed sensitive electronic power steering, ABS and ESP, the Polo GT TSI features climate control, 2-DIN audio with Bluetooth connectivity, multi-function steering wheel, rear parking sensors, lane change indicators, and remote central locking. Apart from upmarket fabric upholstery, the PoloGT TSI also gets leather wrapped steering wheel, leather wrapped gear knob, chrome interior trim, aluminium pedals, and a parcel tray. A chrome grille with GT badge differentiates this Polo from other Polo models.
