TVS Automobile Solutions (TVS ASL) provider of after-market integrated service solution through its brand MyTVS, has eight businesses like automobile parts sourcing, car workshops and tool and garage equipment business. Mr Sanjay Nigam, President and CEO, TVS Automobile Solutions, outlines the company’s plans and informs Bhargav TS about the road ahead for the company’s JV with Myers Tire Supply Inc. Excerpts:
What is the rationale behind bringing all the eight verticals under one brand?
The main purpose of bringing the verticals under the common umbrella of TVS ASL is that we want to straddle the entire spectrum of car services. If you take the car service business, we would like to have 200 workshops across India from the current 80 in the next three years. This will help us penetrate every part of the country including Tier II and Tier III cities.
You recently formed a JV with US-based Myers Tire Supply International to offer tyre repair solutions. What is the latest development in this business?
We are currently doing a market research to understand the right product lines and pricing. We don’t want to start in a haphazard manner; the Indian economy is now going through a tough phase and we want to offer value to customers. We will be having a distributor network and have some display showrooms for branding purpose. We may also tie up with some automobile companies for B2B markets.
Since there are many tyre care product manufacturers in the country, what will be the uniqueness of this JV?
The JV will give us first mover advantage in the largely fragmented and unorganised after-market tyre repair and service business in India. What we are bringing to the table is definitely a technology product, which is at par with the best and we will offer it at a very competitive price.
Since customers look for faster service, will these equipment help in delivering vehicles at the earliest?
A typical customer would want to get in and go out as quick as possible, because the longer a vehicle sits in the bay it will cost money. To address such customers, the ideal solution would be to introduce tools that are quick and can address complicated jobs. Many of the products in our JV are designed for workshops to handle exacting tasks.
Myers would offer a lot of tyre care products, how are you going to educate the customers in India?
The awareness programme will have to be at two levels – one for our people and another for customers. Myers Tires has interacted with many OEMs in the US and has developed kits for enhancing tyre safety and tyre life. We will follow the same and take the tyre repair to the next level.
