Mahindra has chosen the Auto Expo to reveal a state-of-the-art five-speed automated manual transmission it has developed through a technology and engineering collaboration with Ricardo.

The new 5-speed autoSHIFT transmission represents a significant step forward in transmission technology within the Indian automotive sector. Designed specifically to improve the driving experience and fuel economy in the urban environment, the unit incorporates the key efficiency advantages of a manual transmission while providing the smooth comfort and convenience of an automatic.

The Mahindra autoSHIFT incorporates advanced technologies including an electronic control and hydraulic actuation system that senses driver demand and initiates gear changes automatically based on a highly optimized shift map that delivers the best possible fuel efficiency. The new autoASHIFT has been launched for the first time in the 2014 model year Mahindra Quanto compact SUV.

Driving the autoSHIFT provides a rewarding experience, with the ability to switch between automatic and manual mode with just a tap on the lever. As a driver you are now under full control of the vehicle making your own decision to hold on a gear or make quicker or delayed shifts as you might wish, without the need to operate the clutch pedal.
